UCMH Directors

Martha Barb, Nursing Director in the Medical Surgical ICU, is a resident of Unicoi County. She received her Associate Degree in Nursing from East Tennessee State University as a registered nurse. She has been certified by the Board Registry in Neuroscience Nursing for 13 years. Martha is a member of AANN, Neuroscience and AACN, Critical Care. Martha has received numerous awards for her accomplishments in nursing.

Martha has been employed at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital since 1994 and has thirty years in the nursing field. Previously, she was an affiliate faculty with ETSU, Critical Care Instruction and Mountain States Health Alliance, Critical Care Instructor, ACLS Director and BCLS Instructor.

Martha is married to Jay Barb and has one daughter and two grandsons. She is a member of the Eastern Star and Clear Branch Baptist Church. Martha’s outside interests include hiking, bird watching, photography, baseball and gardening.

Cynthia Bates, Director, Infection Control and Education, is a native of Chattanooga, TN. She received her Professional Nursing Diploma from Erlanger Hospital, School of Nursing, UT Chattanooga. Cynthia is certified with the Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology and is a member of APIC. She is active with TELAMON Head Start and is on the Child Development/Health and Safety Advisory Committee.

Cynthia has been employed with Unicoi County Memorial Hospital since 1997 at her current position.

Cynthia has two children, and three grandchildren. She is a member of Westminster Presbyterian. She enjoys reading and gardening.

 

Susan Broyles is Director of Human Resources for Unicoi County Memorial Hospital . She is a graduate of Unicoi County High School and Milligan College . She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management.

Susan has been employed at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital since February of 2005.

Susan is married to Danny Broyles. They have two daughters: Amanda and Ashley; and one son: Ben.

She is a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church in Elizabethton , TN. Her outside interests include outdoor activities, gardening, singing, and traveling.

Chad Capps, PT, Physical Therapy Director, is a graduate of UT Chattanooga with a BS in Exercise Physiology and East Tennessee State University in Physical Therapy. He is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Tennessee Physical Therapy Association and Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Chad is also active in Kiwanis and Gideons. He was chosen as manager of the year in 2003 by the Unicoi County Chamber of Commerce. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Unicoi County Chamber of Commerce.

Chad has been employed at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital as Director of the Physical Therapy Department since 2002. He is a licensed physical therapists and specializes in orthopedics, sports medicine and manual therapy.

Chad is married. He and his wife Joanna are members of Grace Fellowship Church in Johnson City. His interests include real estate investing, running and biking.

 

Katrina Cash, Registration Department Manager, is a native of Unicoi County. She is a graduate of Unicoi County High School and attended Steed Business College. She is certified in Vocational Office Education.

Katrina has been employed at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital since 1977.

She is a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She has one daughter and two grandchildren. Katrina enjoys outdoor activities and playing with her grandchildren.

 

Gary Cutshall, Director of Social Work attended East Tennessee State University and Radford University. He received BSN, BSW and MSW degrees and is licensed in Clinical Social Work. He is a member of NASW.

Gary is an honor society member and has received military awards. He works with Cerebral Palsy of East Tennessee.

Gary has been with Unicoi County Memorial Hospital since 2003.

Gary is married and has two sons. He a member of the Christian Church and enjoys the outdoors and hiking with his family.

Christol Edney, Assistant Director of Human Resources and Marketing is an Erwin Native. She is a graduate of East Tennessee State University where she received her BS in Marketing. She is a Certified Pharmacy Technician.

Christol has been employed with Unicoi County Memorial Hospital since March, 2004.

Christol and her husband, Chuck have one daughter, Leah and one son, Blake. She is a member of Shallow Ford Baptist Church where she is Director of Children’s Services. She enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with family and friends.

Paulette Edwards is Director of Material Management at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. She is a graduate of Unicoi County High School and attended Unicoi County Vocational School. Paulette has received certification in Bookkeeping, CNA Training, Dental Assistant and Office Management.

Paulette has been employed with the hospital since 1968.

Paulette is married to Gary Edwards. They have two children, Gary Wayne and Paula Kay and two grandchildren, Dusty and Jaimie. She is a member of the Presbyterian Church and enjoys bowling and walking.

 

Carol Hitchcock is Director of Dietary and Environmental Services for Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. She is a graduate of Floyd High School, Floyd, Virginia. Carol received her BS in Human Nutrition and Foods from Virginia Tech, her Master of Arts in Teaching and Master of Science in Nutrition from East Tennessee State University. She is a Registered Dietitian and is a Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist with the State of Tennessee. Carol is a member of the American Dietetic Association, Tri-Cities District Dietetic Association, and Tennessee Healthcare Environmental Services Association. Tri-Cities District Dietetic Association honored her with the Emerging Dietetics Leader Award 1999-2000. She is past president of Tri-Cities District Dietetic Association and Chairman of THESA Region 5.

Carol has been employed at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital since 1996.

Carol and her husband, Charles, have four children: Susanne Hitchcock, Stephanie Townsend, Joanna Capps and David Hitchcock and two grandchildren. She is a member of Boone Trail Baptist Church. Her interests include scrapbooking, crafts and sewing.

 

Judy S. Hodges is Director of Pharmacy Services at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. She attended East Tennessee State University and University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, Memphis, TN. She is certified in Immunization, Diabetes Education and Ocal Anticoagulant Trainingship. Judy is a charter member of Northeast Society of Hospital Pharmacy. She has served two terms as the local Secretary of State Long Term Care Society. She was a candidate for President of the State Hospital Pharmacists Society and was President of the Northeast Society of Hospital Pharmacists. Judy is A member of the American Society of Hospital Pharmacy’s National Organization, The American Society of Consultant Pharmacy’s National Organization, The Tennessee Pharmacy Association and the Society of Hospital pharmacy and Society of Long Term Care Facilities. She is also a member of the Local, Northeast Society of Hospital Pharmacy and the 1st District Pharmaceutical Association.

Judy has been with Unicoi County Memorial Hospital since 1984.

Judy is married and has two sons and two grandchildren. She is director of the Preschool Department of her church and teaches children four to eight years old. She enjoys her grandchildren and attending plays at Barter Theatre.

 

Connie Miller, Director of Surgical Services and Assistant Chief Nursing Officer is an Erwin native. She attended Bowling Green State University and Providence School of Nursing. She is a member of the Southeast Consortium of Operating Room Managers. Her accomplishments include LCDR – United States Nurse Corps. Connie is on the Vocational School Leadership Committee, a Veteran Memorial Representative and a member of the Women’s Auxillary.

Connie has been employed by Unicoi County Memorial Hospital since 1971.

Connie is married to Charles Miller, who is a speech pathologist. They have two sons: Charles II, who is a physician in internal medicine and 11 year old Chance. They are members of Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church. Connie enjoys various church projects, reading and gardening.

 

 
Ted Rice is Director of Unicoi County Home Health. He is a graduate of Unicoi County High School and ETSU where he received BBA and BSN degrees. Ted is certified in CPR and First Aid. He is a member of ANA.

Ted has been employed with Unicoi County Memorial Hospital since 2000.

He and his wife Kelly have 3 children; Logan, Ethan and Hannah. They are members of Calvary Baptist Church. Ted enjoys working with Unicoi County Little League, where he is a coach. He also enjoys hunting and fishing.

 

Darlene Sheehan, Director of Respiratory Services, is a native of Erwin. She attended East Tennessee State University where she received Certification in Respiratory Therapy. Darlene is a member of Tennessee Society for Respiratory Care, American Association for Respiratory Care, National Board for Respiratory Care and East Tennessee State University Cardiopulmonary Advisory Committee where she holds the office of Secretary. She received the Distinguished Service Award in 2001 for the Northeast Chapter Society for Respiratory Care.

Darlene has been employed at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital since 1990.

Darlene has two sons: Timothy James Sheehan II and Michael N. Sheehan. She is a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Darlene enjoys collecting Blue Ridge Pottery.

 

Michael Slemp is Director of Radiology for Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. He has ARRT Certifications, registered in Radiology, Computed Tomography and Quality Management. He is a member of The American Society of Radiologic Technologists and American Health Care Radiology Administration.

Mike has been employeed at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital since 1987.

He is married and has one son. He is a member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoys model trains.

Pat Staley, Director of Patient Accounts, is a Unicoi County native. She is a graduate of Unicoi County High School. She attended Draughon’s Business College and Science Hill Vocational School. Pat received certification in the Medical Clinical Assistant’s Program and CNA Program. She is a member of HFMA.

Pat has been employed at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital since 1980.

She is married to Douglas Staley. They have one daughter and son-in-law, Joanna and Jamie Clawsen and two grandchildren, Kaleb and Breanna. They are members of Pentacostal Holiness Church. She enjoys reading and walking.

 

 
Linda Stewart is theLaboratory Administrative Director and Director of Occupational Medicine for Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. She attended East Tennessee State University and Wisconsin Institute of Medical Technology. She is licensed with the State of Tennessee as a Medical Laboratory Supervisor, General Medical Technologist and Immunohematology Subspecialist. Linda is certified with the National Credentialing Agency, American Medical Technology, Department of Health Education and Welfare and the American Association of Clinical Medical Assistants. She was the first recipient of The Murray Thelin Award. She also received Recognition of Commitment to Quality during her 12 years with Baxter Health Care and James H. Quillen College of Medicine SNMA Award – Working with Minority Medical Students.

Linda developed the program and instructed adult evening classes for clinical medical assistants at the Johnson City Vocational school for 20 years. She is a member of Clinical Laboratory Managers, the National Credentialing Agency and American Medical Technolist. Linda is also active in the community where she is on the Board of Directors of Johnson City NAMI, Adjunct Faculty ETSU/Northeast State Community College Advisory Board Health (Medical Technology).

Linda has been with Unicoi County Memorial Hospital since 1989.

She has been married to Walter for 37 years. They have 3 children and 5 grandchildren: four girls and a boy. She is a member of Cornerstone Church. She enjoys health fairs, wellness programs, reading and spending time with family.

Sue Webb is Director of Accounting for Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. She attended Mayland Tech Spruce Pine North Carolina. She holds an Associate Degree in Accounting. she is a member of Friends of the Library for Unicoi County.

She has been employed at the hospital since 1986.

Sue and her husband, Ronnie, have three daughters, Michelle Woody, Rhonda Ledford and Melessia Webb. They have two granddaughters and two grandsons. They are members at RiverView Baptist Church in Erwin, TN, where she has taught the Ladies Sunday School class for the last 11 years. Sue enjoys reading, shopping and collecting classical movies.
