Hospital Auxiliary

Ladies Auxiliary

HISTORY:

The Hospital Auxiliary was organized on November 16, 1976 with only 3 officers and 13 organizing members.  In June 1977, the Auxiliary opened the Gift Shop to serve and support visitors, patients, and hospital employees.  The gift shop was renovated in 1991, is located in the main lobby of the hospital, and is staffed completely by volunteers.  Operating hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.  Today they have 30+ volunteers that work a minimum of 50 hours per year.   Not only do they staff the hospital gift shop, but in their spare time, they volunteer in our Long Term Care facility by helping with recreational activities and pitching in wherever needed.  They also act as ambassadors of the hospital to local organizations and our community.

The auxiliary is the recipiant of the THA Volunteer Service Award and the Erwin Record of Service Award.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Thousands of volunteer service hours have gone into making the Auxiliary a successful supporter of the hospital.  These volunteers give their time and energies working toward hospital improvements and welfare of others as their top priority.

The Auxiliary hosts several services throughout the year to earn money for the Auxiliary.  These include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Dinners
  • Community Apple Festival booths
  • Bake Sales
  • Fashion Galas/Benefit Parties
  • Jewelry Shows

All profit from the auxiliary is donated to the hospital in the form of monetary donations and equipment purchases.  Over the past years, the auxiliary has proudly presented more than $100,000 to the hospital.  The following are just some of the items they have purchased/donated over the years.

  • Heart Monitors
  • Blood Gas Machines
  • Operating Room and Emergency Room stretchers
  • Patient Room Recliners and Lounge Chairs
  • Long Term Care Family Room Furniture
  • Beauty shop renovations
  • Purchased Big Screen TV for Long Term Care Dayroom
  • Operating Room Table & Crash Cart
  • Patio/Gazebo

The largest project that the auxiliary undertook was the welcomed addition of a patio/gazebo for our long-term care residents, family members, and employees to enjoy.  This project was an aggressive project for the small auxiliary but they successfully completed this on time and it is a beautiful addition to the hospital.
